Around the Mountain :
Youth Backpacking Experience
AUGUST 17TH — 21ST
“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks”
Strength of character is forged through experience, it cannot be viewed online.
This is a 5-day, 4-night immersive journey for young people ages 11–14 (up to 15), designed to support both outer adventure and inner growth.
Over the course of the week, campers will travel through a rich and varied landscape of forests, flowing streams, mountain ridges, glaciers, open meadows, and ancient lava fields. Each step offers a new perspective, and each view is earned through their own effort and perseverance.
Along the trail, learning arises naturally. Campers will be introduced to:
Ecology and the living systems around them
Geology and the story of the land
Navigation and route-finding
Foundational survival skills
This is a rigorous and meaningful hike that meets young people right at the threshold of growth. The journey is intentionally designed not only to explore the land, but to honor the inner transitions that occur during this stage of life.
Each day includes guided moments for reflection, connection, and team-building through art, storytelling, and games. These spaces allow campers to process their experience, build confidence, and deepen their sense of self and community.
While our guides hold the structure and safety of the journey, campers are active participants in the daily rhythm of the trip. Together, they will:
Set up and break down camp
Prepare meals as a group
Take turns in leadership roles
There is a quiet transformation that happens over the course of the week. The young person who arrives at the beginning of the journey often returns home with a deeper sense of confidence, awareness, and maturity.
